WASHINGTON D.C., AUGUST 22, 2026 – The Canadian American Business Council (CABC) is disappointed that negotiations between the United States and Canada did not result in a resolution on the Section 338 tariffs.

The U.S.-Canada economic relationship is unlike any other. Business across both countries have built highly integrated supply chains, with companies in both countries relying on predictable access to one another’s markets. The costs imposed by these tariffs will not stop at the border. They will ripple through these supply chains, raising prices, discouraging investment, putting jobs at risk and slowing economic growth in both countries.

While we are disappointed by the lack of an agreement, the CABC believes the missed deadline must not become the end of the discussion. The economic stakes are too significant for either country to lose sight of the importance of our joint economic relationship.

The CABC urges both governments to return promptly to the negotiating table and pursue practical and durable solutions that reduce trade barriers and provide greater certainty for the business community.

We are stronger when our two countries work together, and a predictable bilateral trade environment is essential to maintaining our shared economic prosperity, resilience, and economic security.
