WASHINGTON D.C., JULY 20, 2026 – The Canadian American Business Council (CABC) is disappointed by today’s announcement of additional tariffs on Canadian goods. The CABC represents companies and workers on both sides of the border whose success depends on the strength, predictability, and openness of the U.S.-Canada trading relationship.
While trade concerns and bilateral irritants should be addressed, tariffs are not a substitute for constructive engagement. Lasting solutions require dialogue, regulatory cooperation, and a commitment to resolving outstanding issues in a way that strengthens our shared economic prosperity.
The bilateral economic relationship is one of the most integrated and mutually beneficial in the world with businesses, workers, and consumers in both nations depending on predictability. The impact of tariffs is felt across supply chains, industries, and communities on both sides of the border.
The Council continues to urge leaders in both countries to return to the negotiating table, address outstanding trade irritants through good-faith discussions, and chart a path toward a more stable, competitive, and prosperous North American economy. Businesses on both sides of the border are best served by policies that promote certainty, encourage investment, and reinforce the long-term strength of our bilateral partnership.
For over three decades, the CABC has advocated for free and fair trade between our two countries. We continue to stand ready to support both governments in engaging in dialogue and moving towards resolution that will enable and bolster the strength of the bilateral relationship.
